Scoil Mhuire Muineachán

Geography in Scoil Mhuire is based around three major themes.

Place - Pupils learn about  people and communities who live therein, their interactions and lifestyles, the features they construct and the effect of nature on their lives.

Space -Pupils learn about  natural and human features and  how they are related to each other and how they are  distributed on earth i.e places and patterns of human activity.

Environment.- Pupils learn about the interdependence of people and their environment, the effects of the physical and natural environment on our lives and the effects of human activity on  the earth.

The Gegraphy curiculum plays an important part in developing the  pupils' sense of community and citizenship.

The pupils learn many important skills and concepts  through engaging with the Geography curriculum-  spatial relationships,  mapping skills, investigation skills ( questioning, observing, predicting, investigating, estimating, measuring, analysing, recording, communicating and evaluating)

Local Studies arean important aspect and enables the pupils to understand the world they live in, promoting awareness aod the similarities and differnces between environments  both locally, in Ireland  and globally.
