Water

This is a child page of Green Schools

Our Target this year is to reduce the water Consumption in our school by 50%.

We did a water audit manually and counted all the taps  and toilets in the school. We noted any leaks we had come across . We had a competition to  decide on this theme's motto and Congratulations to Jack Lynch 3rd Class ( Ms Mc Crudden) for coming up with  " If you see a leaking tap, Please put on your thinking cap!!

We also had a competition to  guess how much water we  use in school per day. Congratulations to Ms McGinn's 5th Class  who had the closest guess ( 1500- 2000 litres daily)

As our water meter is located at the  main road - it is not possible to  read the water meter regularly. So we will depend on analysing  our three monthly water bills to see  a reduction.

Our aim is to raise awareness of reducing unnecessary water consumption in the school.

Some of the actions we  will do or are doing...

  1.   Fix leaking taps.
  2.   Insert hippo bags into some of the toilets to reduce the flush by up to 2 litres.
  3.   Ten Top Tap tips for the  Parents / Newsletter.
  4.   Put up signs to indicate which flush to use ( Big Flush / Big Button)
  5.   School day of Action  for Water -  March 20th or  23rd ( TBC)
  6.   Each class will do a science water experiment  or  poster competition/ Art/story on the theme of water.
  7.   6th Class will perform their debate for us on the  subject of Water Charges on World Water Day.
  8.   We will all learn the Water Meter Song  by Richie Kavanagh !!  Its funny !
  9.   We have set up a Twitter Account for Parents . Follow us @GreenSchMonaghanBNS
  10.   We will investigate if it is possible to install an internal  water meter  which could alert us to leaks.
